WV Raman appointed as India’s women
team coach –
· Former India
opener, W.V Raman was appointed as the new coach of the Indian Women’s Cricket
team.
· Raman was among three recommendations made by the
ad-hoc committee of Kapil Dev, Anshuman Gaekwad, and Shantha Rangaswamy.
· He has represented India in 11 Tests and 21 One Day
International’s.
· He is currently a batting consultant at the National
Cricket Academy (NCA) in Bengaluru.
India & China
held ‘People-to-People’ meeting –
· India and China
held the first ever meeting of the ‘India-China High Level Mechanism on
Cultural and People-to-People exchanges’.
· The meeting was held in Delhi on 21 December 2018.
· The meeting was attended by External Affairs Ministers
Sushma Swaraj and her Chinese counterpart Wang Yi.
· The meeting aims to strengthen bilateral cultural
ties.
Consumer Protection
Bill passed in Lok Sabha –
· On 20 December 2018, Lok Sabha passed the Consumer
Protection bill, 2018 that seeks to replaced the Consumer Protection Act, 1986.
· The bill enforces Consumer Rights and provides a
redressal of complaints regarding deficiencies in goods and services.
· It seeks to establish Consumer Disputes Redressal
Commissions at District, State, and National Levels.
RBI caps outstanding
ECB’s at 6.5% of GDP –
· On 20 December 2018, the Reserve Bank of India (RBI)
announced a cap for outstanding stocks for External Commercial Borrowings (ECB)
at 6.5% of GDP of the country.
· The outstanding stocks of ECB as on 30 September 2018
was $126.29 billion.
· ECBs refer to commercial loans in the form of bank
loans, securitized instruments and buyers’ credit, supplier’s credit availed of
from non-resident lenders.
All Computers now under
government watch –
· The Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) issued an order of
authorising 10 Central Agencies to Intercept, Monitor and decrypt ‘any
information generated, transmitted, received or stored in any computer’.
· The MHA gave the authorization under 69 (1) of the
Information Technology Act, 2000.
· The agencies are the Intelligence Bureau, Narcotics Control
Bureau, Enforcement Directorate etc.
Conservation Project
for Lions launched –
· The Ministry of Environment, Forests and Climate
Change launched the ‘Asiatic Lion Conservation Project’ on 20 December 2018.
· The aim of the project is to protect and conserve the
world’s last raging free population of Asiatic Lion and its associated
ecosystem.
· The project will be funded from the Centrally
Sponsored Scheme- ‘Development of Wildlife Habitat’ (CSS-DWH).
Government online
training programme launched –
· ‘IGOT’ (Integrated Government Online Training
Programme) was launched on 20 December 2018.
·
It was developed
by Department of Personal and Training, Ministry of Personnel, Public
Grievances and Pensions.
·
It will augment
the existing training mechanism, provided to Government servants, with online
module based training coupled with certification.
Government to infuse
Rs.83,000 crore in PSBs –
· The government of India will infuse Rs. 83000 crore
in Public Sectors Bank (PSBs) in the next few months in the central fiscal.
· The government of India moved the proposal in
Parliament for enhanced bank recapitalization.
· The recapitalization will enhance the lending capacity
of PSBs and help them come out of the RBIs Prompt Corrective Action (PCA)
framework.
Rs.2500 to be deposited
in tea workers account –

The Assam
government has approved the release of the second installment of the ‘Chah
Bagicha (tea estate) Dhan Puruskar Mela’.
·
Rs.2500 will be
deposited in each bank account of tea garden workers that were opened just after
the demonetisation in 2016.
·
This amount is
the second installment of the Rs.5,000 incentive announced in the budget for
2017-18.
ITC ocean Complex will
be inaugurated in Hyd –
· International Training Centre for Operations
Oceanography (ITCO ocean) Complex will be inaugurated in Hyderabad on 22 December 2018.
· It was established by the Ministry of Earth Sciences.
· It will provide training to
scientists/researchers/government officers/disaster managers/decision makers in
the areas of ocean science and management.
Infosys appoints
Nilanjan Roy as CFO –
· India’s second largest IT services from Infosys named
Nilanjan Roy as its Chief Financial Officer (CFO), effective from 1 March 2019.
· He replace interim CFO Jayesh Sanghrajka, who will
resume his responsibilities as deputy CFO.
· Before joining Infosys, he was the Airtel’s Global CFO
since August 2015.
· Before Airtel, he was with Unilever Plc for 15 years.
PM Modi to lay
foundation of PHPL –
· The Prime Minister,Narendra Modi will lay th
foundation of ‘Paradip Hyderabad Pipeline Product’ Project (PHPL) on 24
December 2018.
· He will also lay the foundation of ‘Jagdishpur Haldia
and Bokaro-Dhamra’ Gas Pipeline Project (PM Urja Ganga) and is being built by
the Gas Authority of India Limited.
· PHPL is being built by an India Oil Corporation
Limited.
