Business and Economy (17-22 December, 2018) –

·       IDFC Bank completed the merger process with Non-Banking Financial Company ‘Capital First’ on 18 December 2018.

·       The RBI will increase the amount of liquidity infusion by Rs.10,000 crore to Rs.50,000 crore in December 2018.

·       On 20 December 2018, the RBI announces a cap for outstanding stock of External Commercial Borrowings (ECB) at 6.5% of GDP of the Country.

Indexes and Reports (17-22 December 2018) –

·       World Economic Forums ‘Global Gender Gap Report 2018’ was released on 18 December 2018.

·       The National Reports on States ‘Startup Ranking 2018’ was released by Departmental of Industrial Policy and Promotion on 20 December 2018.

·       The ‘Sustainable Development Goals India Index: Baseline Report 2018’ was released by the NITI Aayog on 21 December 2018.

Days and Events (17-22 December) –

·       International Migration Day is observed every year on 18 December 2018.

·       International Human Solidarity Day is observed every year on 20 December.

·       The National Mathematics Day is observed every year in India on 22 December.

Awards and Honours (17-22 December 2018) –

·       Film Producer Ashok Amrit Raj was honoured with the ‘French Knight of the National order of Merit’ o 14 December 2018.

·       Veteran Actor Jeff Bridges will receive the ‘Cecil Be DeMille’ award 2018 at the 76^th annual Golden Globe Awards.

·       Sonam Kapoor was named PETA India’s ‘Person of Te Year’ for 2018 for her animal advocacy efforts.

National Affairs (17-22 December) –

·       Geographical Indications Registry AT Chennai has granted Geographical Indication (GI) tag to Bihar’s ‘Silao Khaja’ on 11 December 2018.

·       Train 18, India’s fastest train, will be flagged off by Prime Minister Narendra Modi from Varanasi on 29 December 2018.

·       The severe cyclonic storm ‘Phethai’ struck Andhra coast near Kakinada on 17 December 2018 with a wind speed of 70-90 Km per hour.

International News (17-22 December) –

·       Mount Spoutan in central Indonesia erupted on 16 December 2018.

·       France will introduce its own tax, ‘GAFA tax’ on large Internet and Technology companies from 1 January 2019.

·       On 17 December 201, UAE President Sheikh Khalifa Nahyan declared 2019 as the ‘Year of Tolerance’.

·       Nevada became the first state in the US with an overall female majority in its legislature on 18 December 2018.

Sport’s News (17-22 December) –

·       PV Sandhu won the season-ending Badminton World Federation (BWF) World Tour Finals Tournament.

·       The 37^th Senior National Rowing Championship began in Pune on 17^th December 2018.

·       Belgium won the ‘Hockey World Cup 2018’ in Bhubaneshwar on 16 December 2018.

·       Virat Kholi became the second fastest batsman to score 25 test centuries.

·       Premier Badminton League 2018 began in Mumbai on 22 December 2018.

India and World (17-22 December 2018) –

·       Prime Minister Narendra Modi announces $1.4 billion financials assistance to the Maldives on 17 December 2018.

·       India and China had the first ever meeting of the ‘India-China High-Level mechanism on Cultural and People-to-People Exchanges.

·       The’9^th India South-Korea Joint Commission’ meeting was held in New Delhi on 29 December 2018

GST council cut rates on 17 items, 6 services –

·       The Goods and Service Tax council has cut rates on 17 items and 6 types of services during is 31^st meeting on 22 December 2018.

·       The GST rates on cinema tickets above Rs.100 was cut from 28% to 18% and on tickets up to Rs.100 from 18% to12%.

·       The council decided that 5% GST would be levied on  renewable energy devices and parts for their manufacture.

IFC-IOR inaugurated in Gurugram –

·       India inaugurated and Information Fusion Centre India Ocean Region (IFC-IOR) ON 22 December 2018.

·       The IFC as been established at the Navy’s Information Management and Analysis Centre (IMAC) at Gurugram.

·       It will work closely with countries in the India ocean region and will be manned by the Indian Navy.

·       It will track and monitor 75,000 to 1.5 lakh shipping traffic in the IOR in real time.
