Anupama:
Astronomical Society President –

Dr.G
C Anupama became the first women of the country to be elected president of the
Astronomical Society of India (ASI).
·     
She
is presently the Dean and Senior Professor at the Bengaluru based Indian
Institute of Astrophysics (IIA).
·     
She
is also a recipient of the Sir C.V Raman award for young scientist in 2000.
1st
fulldome 3D digital theatre inaugurated –
·     
India’s
first fulldome 3D Digital Theatre was inaugurated at the science city on 18 Feb
2019 in Kolkata.
·     
It
has a 23 meter titled dome to offer a fully immersive experience to the
visitor’s.
·     
It
is capable of screening high resolution, full dome, and digital 2D/3D content
by utilising 6, high-end projectors.
International
Desert Festival Began –
·     
The
40th International Annual Desert Festival kicked-off with thousands
of tourists participating in the colourful event in Jaisalmer on 17 February
2019.
·     
The
3rd Day festival exhibiting the rich culture heritage of the desert
state commenced with a colourful procession from Gadsisar lake fort.
·     
It
will have interesting events like Mr. Desert and Ms. Moomal competitions,
turban tying etc.
Deshpande
won Shiv Chhatarpati Awards –

Noted
Mallakhamb coach, Uday Deshpande and aggressive opening batswoman Smriti
Mandhana were conferred with Shiv Chhatarpati awards on 17 Feb 2019.

The
awards were presented by Maharashtra Governor C Vidyasagar Rao.
·     
Among
the other award recipients are Suraj Karkera, Sanil Shetty, and Siddhant
Singhaliya.

Prince in India –

Saudi
Arabia’s crown Prince Mohammed Bin Salman arrived in New Delhi on visit on 19
February 2019.
·     
He
is being closely watched after his 2-day stint in Pakistan, where he praised
Islamabad’s efforts for “regional peace and security” just days after Pulwama
Attack.
·     
He
announced investment worth 20 billion dollars at the end of his two-day visit
to Islamabad on 18 February 2019.

The
Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi, visited BHU in Varanasi on 19 Feb 2019.

He
inaugurated Pandit Madan Mohan Malaviya Cnacer Hospital and Homi Bhabha Cancer
Hospital, Lahartara.

Feb: World Day of Social Justice –

20
Feb is observed annually as the World Day of Social Justice to promote equal
rights and opportunities among people within a country a within nations.
·     
The
Day was approved on 26 November 2007 by the UN General Assembly.
·     
The
theme of 2019 World Day of Social Justice is ‘If You Want Peace And
Development, Work for Social Justice’.
Hindi
author Namvar Singh died –
·     
Celebrated
Hindi author and literary critic, Namvar Singh died on19 Feb 2019.
·     
He
received the Sahitya Akademi Award for literary criticism in the year 1971 for
‘Kavita ke Naye Pratiman’.
·     
He
was the first Chairman of JNU’s Centre of Indian Languages.
·     
He
has authored over a dozen works including Kavita Ke Naye Pritam, Chhayavaad,
and Dusri Parampara Ki Khoj.
Government
launched NRETP projects –
·     
The
Union Cabinet approved the implementation of National Rural Economic Transformation
Project (NRETP).
·     
It
I under the Deendayal Antyodaya Yojana National Rural Livelihoods Missions
(DAY-NRLM) through loan assistance (IBRD Credit) from World Bank.
·     
DAY-NRLM
lays special emphasis on targeting the poorest of the poor and the most vulnerable
communities and their financial inclusions.
3-Day
International Conference Inaugurated –

An
International Conference and Exhibition on Energy and Environment – Challenges
and Opportunities (ENCO-2019), Ii being held from 20th to 22nd
February 2019 in New Delhi.
·     
It
aims to deliberate and Identify the R&D needs to innovates new techniques,
technologies and applications.
·     
The
conference was inaugurated by the President of India, Shri Ram Nath Kovind.
Kalia’s
scholarship for farmer’s children –
·     
Odisha
Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik unveiled a scholarship program for the children
of the beneficiaries of the Kalia scheme on 19 Feb 2019.
·     
Kalia
scholarship or ‘Kalia Chhatra Brutti’ will ensure that not a single eligible
child of Kalia beneficiaries be deprived of his/her dream.
·     
The
state government will bear all expenditure including courses fees, hostel fees,
and mess fees.
Nyaya
Bandhu Mobile App launched –
·     
Shri
Ravi Shankar Prashad launched Nyaya Bandhu Mobile Application and dashboard.
·     
It
will enable the paralegal volunteers (PLV)’s to perform on field
pre-registration of cases.
·     
This
a pro bono app.
·     
It
is integrated with a dashboard to enable online interface between beneficiary
and the panel lawyer through video conferencing and telephone facility.
