Argentina becomes 72^nd country to join ISA –

·      On 18 February 2019, Argentina became the 72^nd country to sign the Framework Agreement of the International Solar Alliance (ISA).

·      The agreement was signed on the sidelines of the official 3-Day of visit of Argentinian President Mauricio Macri to India.

·      The International Solar Alliance (ISA) is a group of 121 solar resource-rich countries with headquarters at Gurugram in Haryana.

1^st Mega Food Park of Tripura inaugurated –

·      Union Minister for State for Food Processing Industries Sadhvi Niranjan Jyoti inaugurated Sikaria Mega Food Park Pvt. Ltd. In Agartala on 20 February 2019.

·      This is the first Mega Food Pak in the State of Tripura.

·      The Food Park is having facilities of fully operational dry warehouse, Quality Control, Research and Development Centre etc.

·      The Food Park is the 18^th of it’s kind in the country.

12^th Edition of “Aero India 2019” inaugurated –

·      ‘Aero India 2019’ was inaugurated by the Defence Minister Nirmala Sitharaman at Yelahanka Airforce station in Bengaluru on 20 February 2019.

·      It showcased India’s Air Defence prowess and manufacturing capabilities.

·      It is organised by the Ministry of Defence.

·      This edition of Aero India, for the first time, combines the defence and civil aviation segments into a holistic event.

4^th INDIA-ASEAN Expo Summit begins in Delhi –

·      The 4^th India-ASEAN Expo summit is being held from 21 to 23 February 2019 in New Delhi.

·      The event is being organised by Ministry of Commerce and Industries and FICCI.

·      The aim of the event is to strengthen the India-ASEAN relations under the Act-East Policy.

·      ASIAN comprises of Vietnam, Thailand, Singapore, Philippines, Myanmar, Malaysia, Laos, Indonesia, Cambodia and Brunei.

Attukal Pongala begins in Thiruvananthapuram –

·      Attukal Pongala festival has begun at Thiruvananthapuram in Kerala on 20 February 2019.

·      The festival is considered as one of the world’s largest religious gathering of women on a single day.

·      It is a 10-day festival celebrated at the Attukal Temple.

·      Attukal Temple is also popularly known as women’s Sabarimala.

·      ‘Pongala’ is a mix of rice, jaggery and scraped coconut.

Rare Frog species found in Arunachal Pradesh –

·      Scientists of the Zoological Survey of India (ZSI) found a rare frog (Megophrys pachyproctus) from the tale valley wildlife Sanctuary at Lower Subansiri district in Arunachal Pradesh.

·      The medium sized frog was found from Pange in Tale Valley by Dr.Bikramjit Sinha and Bhaskar Saikia of the ZSI.

·      The Frog was discovered in China in 1981.

‘Festival of India’ begins in Nepal –

·      A month-long ‘Festival of India’ began in Nepal on 19 February 2019.

·      The objective of the festival is to familiarise the new generation of Nepal about the similarities between Nepal and India.

·      The festival is organised by the Swami Vivekananda Cultural Centre, Embassy of India in Nepal.

·      The festival will conclude on 21 March on 2019.

International Mother Language Day –

·      The International Mother Language Day is observed every year on 21 February.

·      The aim of the day to promote awareness of linguistic and cultural diversity and promote multilingualism.

·      The Day is known as Bhasa Diwas or Shahid Diwas in West Bengal and Bangladesh.

·      The Idea to celebrate International Mother Language Day was an initiative of Bangladesh.

Virtual Experiential Museum inaugurated –

·      Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated the Virtual Experiential Museum (VEM) in Man Mahal Varanasi on 19 February 2019.

·      VEM will show a glimpse of various cultural aspects of Varanasi.

·      VEM was established by the National Council of Science Museum (NCSM) working under the Ministry of Culture.

·      Man Mahal is a centrally protected monument under   Archeological Survey of India.

Wallace Smith Broecker passed away –

·      Wallace Smith Broecker, a climate scientist who popularised the term ‘global warming’ ,passed away on 18 February 2019.

·      He was also first person to recognise what he called the Ocean Conveyor Belt, a global system of ocean currents circulating water and nutrients.

·      He was known in science circle as the “Grandfather of Climate Science”.

MHRD launches Operation Digital Board –

·      On 20 February 2019, the Ministry of Human Resource Development (MHRD) launch Operation Digital Board (ODB) to provide better digital education in schools.

·      The digital board ill introduced all over the country in the government and government aided schools from class 9^th onwards as well as in higher education institutions.

·      ODB aims at converting a class room into a digital classroom.

Ranking on Startup initiatives launched –

·      The Department for Promotion of Industry and Internal Trade (DPIIT) released second edition of ‘Startup Ranking for 2019’ on 20 February 2019.

·      The Startup ranking framework aims to rank the States/UTs for establishing a robust ecosystem for supporting Startup’s.

·      The Ranking framework 2019 comprises of 7 pillars and 30 action points.
