Kavinder fetched gold
in GeeBee –
·       Kavinder Singh Bisht (56kg) struck gold at the 38th
GeeBee boxing Tournament in Helsinki,
 Finland on 10
March 2019.
·       Shiva Thapa (60 Kg), Govind Sahani (49 Kg), Muhhamed
Hussamudin (56Kg) and Dinesh Dagar (69 Kg) claim silver medals in the
tournament.
·       Sumit Sangwan (91 Kg), Sachin Siwach (52 Kg) and

Lok-Sabha polls from 11
April-19 May –
·       Elections to the 17thh Lok Sabha will be conducted in
7 phases across the country from April 11- May 19.
·       The Voter Verifiable Paper Audit Trail (VVPAT)
machines, a total of 17.4 lakh units, will be used for the first time at all
stations.
·       The Model Code of Conduct came into effect immediately
on the announcement of the schedule.
Pulse Polio program
launched in Nagaland –
·       The Nagaland Health and Family Welfare Department
launched the first round of ‘Intensive Pulse Polio Immunization’ programme on
10 March 2019.
·       It is targeting to administer polio drops to all
eligible children upto 5 years throughout the state in 2274 polio booths.
·       More than 17 cr. Children below 5 years across the
country will be given polio drops as part of the central governments drive.
Data usage in India to grow
by 2022 –
·       India’s data consumption is expected to grow at a
compounded annual growth rate (CAGR) of 72.6% to 10,96,58,793 MB by 2022.
·       Video streaming constitutes roughly 65-75% of the
traffic, as per the Nokia Mobile Broadband Index 2018.
·       Internet penetration is increasing in India, and
mobile internet penetration is set to reach 56.7% in 2022 from a mere 30.2% in
2017.
11 new regional DD
channels launched –
·       Prasar Bharti launched 11 state Doordarshan channels,
including five for northeast through DD Free Dish, on 9 March 2019.
·       This was done to widen the reach and accessibility of
the government broadcaster.
·       Chhattisgarh, Goa,
Haryana, Himachal Pradesh, Jharkhand, Manipur, Meghalaya, Mizoram, Nagaland,
Tripura, and Uttrakhand got their own DD channels on satellite network through
DD Free Dish.
India, Costa Rica
signed 2 documents –
·       India and Costa
  Rica signed 2 documents during Vice
President’s visit to the Central American nation from March 7-March 9, 2019.
·       An MoU was signed on waiving Visa requirements for
Diplomatic and Official passport holders.
·       A Letter of Intent was signed t collaborate in the
field of biotechnology.
3 special observers
appointed or J&K –
·       The Election Commission formed a 3-member committee to
access the situation on the ground in Jammu
  and Kashmir.
·       The 3 member of the committee are two retired IAS
officers Noor Mohammed and Vinod Zutshi and a retird IPS officer, A.S. Gill.
·       EC will be regularly and on a real time basis
monitoring the situation in the state and the decision of holding assembly
elections will be taken soon.
LIC hunts synergies –
·      
LIC Insurance
Corporation of India
and IDBI Bank Ltd. Set up a task force to implement synergies.
·      
This came four
months after India’s
biggest insurer agreed to put more than 200 billion rupees into the troubled lender.

rapid transit systems to be built in the state.
IDBI Bank to sell Rs.
100 bn of bad loans –
·       IDBI Bank Ltd., the lender with India’s
worst-bad loan ratio will sell 10 billion rupees of stressed assets.
·       It will be out of the RBI’s prompt corrective action
framework by September as bad-loan ratio narrows and profits rise.
·       IDBI’s gross bad loan ratio stood at about 30 percent
as of December 31, 2018.
Jet Airways got loan
from PNB –
·       Jet Airways (India) Ltd secured fresh credit
facilities of Rs. 2,050 crore from Punjab National Bank (PNB).
·       It has raised foreign currency terms loans worth Rs.1,100
crore and a non-fund based credit facility of Rs.950 crore from PNB.
·       The credit facility has been raised in two lots
through separate agreements with PNB.
PNB sanctioned debt
worth Rs. 689 crore –
·       Punjab National Bank sanctioned loans worth Rs.689
crore to over 1,600 Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs) through the
psbloansin59minutes.com portal.
·       Under the Mudra Yojana, the bank has offered loan to
over 2.69 lakh small entrepreneurs this fiscal, till Feb 14, 2019.
·       In November 2018, PM announced the launch of the 59
minute loan portal to enable easy access to credit for MSMEs.
Vijay Gokhale oon 3-day
visit to US –
·       Foreign secretary Vijay Gokhale began a three-day
visit to the US
on 11 March 2019 during which he will meet senior officials of the Trump
administrations.
·       He will also met with senior leaders in the US
administration and US Congress.
·       He will also exchange views on major foreign policy
and security-related developments.
Surat Metro Rail Project approved –
·       The Central government approved the 40.35 km Surat
Metro Rail project with 2 corridors.
·       The project would be completed in 5 years at an
estimate cost of Rs. 12,020.32 crore.
·       The project will be implemented by the Gujarat Metro
Rail corporation (GMRC) Ltd.
·       It will provide affordable, reliable, safe and secure
and seamless transport system in the Urban agglomeration of the city.
India’s first LGBTQ clinic –
·       India’s first HIV treatment center and holistic clinic for
the LGBTQ community was inaugurated by Humsafar Trust in Mumbai.
·       The center will give free counseling and provide
Anti-Retroviral Therapy (ART).
·       ART is the use if HIV medicines to treat the infection
and is recommended for everyone who is infected with virus and delays the
progression of the disease.
