India and Oman
to begin Joint exercise –
·       The 3rd edition of the bilateral joint
exercise between India and Oman, AI Nagah 2019 will begin from 12 March
2019 at Jabel Al Akhdar Mountains in Oman.
·       It will continue till 25th of March and
both the armies will exchange expertise and experience in tactics, weapon
handling, and firing.
·       The aim of this exercise is to enhance
interoperability in counter-terrorist operations.
Nepal govt officials joined INGAF courses –
·       The 3rd group of 22 officials of Nepal’s Ministry
of Finance joined their training course on ‘Global Perspectives on Public
Finance Management’.
·       They joined the courses at the Institutes of
Government Account and Finance (INGAF) in New
  Delhi on 4 March, 2019.
·       The training is being held under the Indian Technical
and Economic Cooperation (ITEC) programme of the Ministry of External Affairs.
PM visited Karnataka,
Tamil Nadu –
·       PM Narendra Modi visited Kalabugari in Karnataka and
Kancheepuram in Tamil Nadu on 6 March 2019 to launch various development projects.
·       He dedicated to the nation the Income Tax Appellate
Tribunal Terminal and ESIC Hospital and Medical College,
Bengaluru.
·       He also unveiled multiple projects in roadways, railways,
and energy sector at Kancheepuram in Tamil Nadu.
World Bank and India
signed agreement –
·       The World Bank and the Govt of India signed a $250
Million Agreement for the National Rural Economic Transformation Project
(NRTEP) in Delhi
on 5 March 2019.
·       It will help women in rural households to shift to a
new generation of economic initiatives.
·       The Loan Agreement was signed by Mr. Sameer Kumar
Khare, Ministry of Finance, and Mr. Hisham Abdo, Acting Country Director, World
Bank India.
Loan Agreement for
Chhattisgarh –
·       The Government of India, the State Government of
Chhattisgarh and the World Bank signed a $25.2 Million Loan Agreement in New Delhi on 5 March
2019.
·       It was signed to support the State’s Reforms in
Expenditure Management to cover things such as expenditure planning.
·       Te Loan Agreement was signed by Mr. Sameer Kumar Khare,
Ms. Kamal Preet Dhillon, and Mr. Hisham Abdo.
Mukesh Ambani is 13th
richest man in the world: Forbes –
·       Richest Indian, Mukesh Ambani jumped six positions to
rank 13th on Forbes World’s Billionaire list.
·       Amazon founder Jeff Bezos with $131 billion remained
the world’s richest person followed by Bill Gates and Warren Buffet.
·       Ambani saw wealth soar from $40.1 billion in 2018 when
he was placed 19th richest in the world, to $50 million to be rank
at 13th in 2019.
HP to build 3D printing
centre in AP –
·       HP Inc India signed an MoU with the Andhra Pradesh
Government on 5 March 2019 to build a Center of Excellence
(CoE) for 3D printing.
·       The pact was inked with the Andhra Pradesh Innovation
Society (APIS) and the Andhra Pradesh Economic Development Board (APEDB).
·       The CoE would be equipped with 3D printers that can
handle short-run production and functional prototyping.
Permanent Commission to
women –
·       Ministry of Defence has taken steps to ensure
implementation of grant of Permanent Commission to Women officers in the Armed
Forces.
·       Women Officers will be granted Permanent Commission in
the Indian Army in all the 10 branches where women are inducted for Short
Service Commission.
·       All branches, in IAF, including Fighter Pilots are now
open for women officers.
World’s youngest
self-made billionaire: Kylie –
·       Kylie Jenner was named the youngest self-billionaire
of all times by Forbes Magazine.
·       Jenner, 21, made it onto the annual Forbes list of
billionaires after debuting her Kylie Cosmetics online in 2015.
·       Forbes said she is both the world’s youngest
billionaire and also the youngest self-made billionaire ever.
Appointments –
·      
The government
appointed P V Ramesh as the director-general of the National Archives of India.
·      
Supreme Court
Judge, Justice S A Bobde was nominated as Executive Chairman of the National
Legal Service Authority on 5 March 2019.
Government introduced
transport scheme –
·       The government introduced the Transport and Marketing
Assistance (TMA) scheme on 5 March 2019.
·       It will provide finance assistance for transport and
marketing of agriculture products.
·       Under the scheme, the government would reimburse a
certain portion of freight charges and provide assistance for marketing of
agriculture produce.
CDPQ signed pact to
invest Rs. 1800 crore –
·       Caisse de depot et placement du Quebec (CDPQ) signed an agreement to invest
Rs.1,800 crore in ECL Finance Ltd, on 5 March 2019.
·       The Agreement with CDPQ will enable ECL Finance to
capitalize on opportunities in the credit market.
·       CDPQ will make the investment through its arm, CDPQ
Private Equity Asia Pte Ltd, according to a statement by ECL Finance.
65% hate crimes against
Dalits –
·       65% hates crimes against Dalits were documented by
Amnesty India’s
interactive Halt the Hate website.
·       Of the 218 documented incidents, 142 were against
Dalits, 50 against Muslims, and 8 each against Christians, Adivasis and
Transgender people.
·       For the straight year, Uttar Pradesh recorded the
highest number of reported crimes, with 57 such incidents.
Arata won Pritzker
Architecture Prize –
·       Japanese architect Arata Isozaki was awarded the
year’s Pritzker Architecture Prize, known internationally as the highest honour
in the field, on 5 March 2019.
·       Founded in 1979, the prize honours each year a living
architect or architects whose work demonstrate talent and vision.
·       Isozaki is credited with bringing together the East
and West in his innovative designs.
Trump to end trade
terms for India
–
·       US President Donald Trump intends to end the
preferential trade terms for India
under the U.S.’s
Generalized System of Preferences (GSP) program.
·       The program accounts for some $5.6 billion of India’s export to the U.S, making India the
largest GSP beneficiary.
·       India has not assured the United
 States that it will provide equitable and reasonable
access to the markets of India,
Trump said.
Nobel prize in
literature to be awarded twice –
·       2 Nobel Prize in literature will be awarded in 2019,
to make for the lack of one in 2018, as announced on 5 March 2019.
·       Last Year’s Nobel was with held for the first time
since 1949 after the Swedish
 Academy was hit with a
sexual misconduct scandal.
Google launched new app
–
·       Google unveiled a new app ‘Bolo’ on 5 March 2019 that
aims to help children in primary school learn to read in Hindi and English.
·       The free pp, which is being launched in India first,
uses Google’s speech recognition and text-to-speech technology.
·       The app features an animated character ‘Diya’, who
encourages children to read stories aloud and help if the children is unable to
pronounce a word.
NABL launched Quality
Assurance scheme –
·       NABL launched a scheme called Quality Assurance Scheme
(QAS) for Basic Composite (BC) Medical Laboratories (Entry Level) in February
2019.
·       The scheme will help to bring quality at the grass
route level of India’s
health system.
·       The base criterion of the schemes is based on the
requirements enlisted in Gazette notification dated 18th May 2018 by
Ministry of Health and Family Welfare (MOHFW).
