Indore: Cleanest city 3rd time in a row –
·       Indore bagged the cleanest city award for the 3rd
straight year under Swachh Survekshan 2019.
·       President Ram Nath Kovind presented Swachh
Survekshan-2019 award in New Delhi.
·       New Delhi Municipal Council area got the cleanest
small city award.
·       Uttrakhand’s Gauchar was adjudged as the Best Ganga
 Town in the survey.
MoU signed between NCGG
and IICA –
·       National Center for Good Governance (NCGG) and Indian Institutes of
Corporate Affairs (IICA) signed an MoU on 6 March 2019.
·       IICA will support NCGG for utilization of
infrastructure facilities during the training program of NCGG at Delhi and for academic
& intellectual interactions for 5 Years.
·       IICA’s primary objective is establishing, managing,
and running a world-class institute.
CBDT announced relaxed
norms for startups –
·       The income tax department notified the modified norms
for startups to enable them to seek ‘angel tax’ exemption of investments of
upto Rs. 25 crore.
·       The modified norms are aimed at encouraging budding entrepreneurs.
·       To avail the startup a startup will be required to
submit a self-declaration about the use of the raised amount to the Department
for Promotion of Industry and Internal Trade.
Odisha announced
assistance for craftsmen –
·       As a token of appreciation towards the craftsman, the
Odisha government launched a scheme Mukhya Mantri Karigar Sahayata on 6 March
2019.
·       The scheme will provide them with monthly assistance.
·       Craftsman with over 10 years of experience and annual
income below Rs 1 Lakh would be eligible to get an assistance of Rs 800 a
month.
·       Those above 80 Years would get Rs 1,000 monthly
allowance.
Sonbhadra tops NITI
Aayog’s ranking –
·       Sonbhadra, Sahibganj, and Chatra topped the ranking of
aspirational districts by NITI Aayog for the December-January period of
2018-19.
·       The rankings measured the incremental progress made by
112 aspirational districts in December 2018-January 2019 across six
developmental areas.
·       Of 115 aspirational districts, only 112 participated
in the survey.
KIFI recognized as NSF
by Sports Ministry –
·       Ministry of Youth Affair’s and Sport’s granted
provisional recognition to Kudo International Federation India (KIFI) as
National Sports Federation with immediate effect.
·       The recognition means granting a major role to KIFI Association
for promotion and Development of Kudo sports in India.
·       Kudo is an official Japanese Cultural Budo Sport under
the same category at Judo, Aikido, and Kendo.
OECD cut global growth
forecast –
·       Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development
lowered its forecast for global economic growth to 3.3% for 2019.
·       It is down from 3.5% it predict in November.
·       High Policy uncertainity, ongoing tensions, and
further erosion of business and consumer confidence contributed to the
slowdown.
·       OECD revised growth estimates lower in almost all of
the countries in the G20 group.
Ajit Kumar appointed
BARC chief –
·      
Scientist Ajit
Kumar Mohanty was appointed Director of Bhabha Atomic Research Center (BARC) on
6 March 2019.
·      
He has been
appointed for a 3 years and is at present Director, Physics Group in BARC and
Director, Saha Institute of Nuclear Physics.
·      
The BARC is India’s premier
nuclear research facility based in Mumbai.
CERN approved new
experiment –
·      
CERN Research
Board approved a new experiment designed to look for light and weakly
interaction particles at the LHC.
·      
FASER (Forward
Search Experiment), will complement CERN’s ongoing physics programme, extending
its discovery potential to several new particles.
·      
It will search
for a suite of hypothesised particles including dark photons.
Web Wonder Women
felicitated –
·      
The Ministry
Women and Child Development hosted a felicitation event for Web Wonder Women in
New Delhi on 6
March 2019.
·      
It was organized
to celebrate the exceptional achievements of women, who have been driving
social reforms via social media.
·      
30 women, who
were selected after an extensive research process, were honoured by the Minster
for Women and Child Development, Maneka Gandhi.
Janaushadhi Diwas: 7
March –
·      
Janaushadhi Diwas
is being celebrated across the country on 7th arch 2019.
·      
PM Narendra Modi
addressed 5000 Janaushadhi stores across the country through video-conferencing
on the occasion.
·      
More than 5050
Pradhan Mantri Bhartiya Janaushadhi Pariyojana Kendras are functional in 652
districts.
Bharat Electronic
Launches SWAGAT –
·      
Bharat
Electronics Limited (BEL), presented SWAGAT – the Automatic Fare Collection
Gating System.
·      
Modi launched the
system as part of the inaugural of Phase-I of the Ahmedabad Metro.
·      
SWAGAT in an
initiative by the Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs in collaboration with
BEL and Center for Development of Advanced Computing with the support of DMRC,
NPCI, and SBI.
Soumya Swaminathan: WHO
chief scientists –
·      
Soumya
Swaminathan wasmoved from the position of deputy Director-General of  WHO on 7 March 2019.
·      
She will now be
the chief scientist heading the organizations new chief scientist division.
·      
She was the first
Indian to hold the position at WHO.
·      
Swaminathan, who
joined WHO in October 2017, has been replaced by Zsuzsanna Jakab, currently
regional director, WHO Europe.
Government to launch
I-STEM portal –
·      
The center is all
set to launch a national portal ‘I-STEM’ of publicly-funded research facilities
and equipment.
·      
It will enable
easy and timely access of resources to researches working anywhere in the
country.
·      
The web portal is
developed by scientists from the Indian institutes of Science (IISc), Bengaluru
and is expected to be officially launched soon.
