Nari Shakti Puraskar
2018 awarded –
· President of India,
Ram Nath Kovind presented the Nari Shakti Puraskar 2018, in New Delhi, on International Women’s Day, i.e.
8 March 2019.
· Nari Shakti Puraskar is the highest civilian honour
for women in India
held in Rashtrapati Bahvan.
· This year, 44 awardees were selected out of around a
thousand nominations received by the Ministry.
FMBAP approved by the
Cabinet –
· The Union Cabinet approved the Flood Management and
Borders Area Program (FMBAP) for Flood Management Works in the entire country.
· River Management Activities and works related to
Border Areas were also approved for the period 2017-18 to 2019-20 with a total
outlay of Rs.3342.00 crores.
· FMBAP Scheme will be implemented for effective flood
management, erosion control, and anti-sea erosion.
MoU between India and UK approved –
· The Union Cabinet approved a MoU between India and UK on Cancer research Initiatives.
· The MoU was signed on 14th November 2018.
· The India-UK Cancer Research Initiative will identify
a core set of research challenges that address issues cancer by bringing
together leading Indian and UK
experts.
Scheme to rebate state
embedded taxes –
· The Union Cabinet approved the scheme to rebate state
and central embedded taxes to support the textile sector.
· This will enable the government to take various
measure for making exports of apparel and made-ups zero-rated.
· At present, apparel and made-ups segments are supported
under the Scheme for Rebate of State Levies (RoSL).
MoU between India and Austria approved –
· The MoU between the Ministry of Roads Transport and
Highways, India and the
Federal Ministry of Transport, Innovation, and Technology Austria
approved by the Cabinet.
· The MoU was signed on Technology Cooperation in the
Road Infrastructure Sector.
· It aims to create an effective framework for bilateral
co-operation in the field of Road Transportation between both countries.
Advanced braking
systems mandatory –
· Ministry of Road Transport & Highways mandated
advance braking systems and technologies for improved road safety and reducing
accidents.
· The provision will b binding on all vehicles with 9
seats and above as per a notification issued on 7 March, 19.
· The existing vehicles will be require to adopt new
provisions from April 2021, while new vehicles, from April 2022 will have these
pre-fitted.
Cabinet approved Kiru
Hydro Electric Project –
· The Cabinet Committee approved the investment sanction
for construction of Kiru Hydro Electric (HE) Project (624 MW) in Jammu &
Kashmir.
· The Project is located on River Chenab in Kishtwar
districts of J&K and will be implemented at an estimates cost of Rs.4297.59
crore.
· The project is envisaged as a Run of River (RoR) Scheme,
designed complying with the requirements of Indus Water Treaty 1960.
Agreement between India and Belarus approved –
· The Union Cabinet approved the agreement between India and the Republic of Belarus
on Mutual Legal Assistance (MLAT) in Civil and Commercial Matters.
· The Agreement will promote Mutual Legal Assistance
between the Contracting Parties in Civil and Commercial Matters.
· The proposal aims to benefit the citizens of the
respective Parties seeking Legal Assistance in both matters.
MoU between India and Germany approved –
· The Union Cabinet approved the MoU between India and Germany on cooperation in the field
of Occupational Safety and Health (OSH).
· The MoU was renewed on 13th November 2018.
· Under the MoU, German Social Accident Insurance (DGUV)
through the International Social Security Association (ISSA) is bringing in
know how to meet the OSH
challenges.
Ed-tech startups helps
women to get govt. jobs –
· Now women can prepare for government exams from the
comfort of their homes.
· Females from villages, Tier III & IV cities can
compete with competitors from Metro Cities.
MoU signed between
Labour Ministry and SIMTARS –
· Directorate General of Mines Safety (DGMS) and Safety
I Mines, Testing and Research Station (SIMTARS) signed a MoU on 7 March 2019.
· Opportunities including the feasibility of technical
knowledge sharing in the area of occupational safety and ore will be explored.
· SIMTARS is a premier training and research institution
under the Government of Queensland, Australia.
Sabka Saath Sabka Vikas
released –
· A compilation of selected speeches of PM Narendra
Modi, titled Sabka Saath Sabka Vikas was released by Arun Jaitely on 8 March
2019.
· Spanning 5 volumes, the books, brought by Publications
Division, Ministry of Information & Broadcasting, were released both in
Hindi and English.
· It reflects the vision of the PM of seeing all
citizens of the country as one.
Suresh Prabhu released
a coffee table book –
· Minister for Civil Aviation, Suresh Prabhu released a
Coffee Table Book- Cruising New Heights- Flying For All on 7 March 2019.
· The Publication throws light on the outstanding
achievements made in the civil aviation sector during 2018.
· It brings out various innovation policy initiatives
like drone ecosystem roadmap, green aviation policy, Rupee Rafter or financing
and leasing of aircrafts.
e-Dharti App launched –
· E-Dharti app, a new online system where all the 3 main
modules– Conversion, Substitution, and Mutation have been made online, was
launched recently.
· The Public can now submit their applications online by
visiting L&DO website.
· E-Dharti Geo Portal, another important application on
which L&DO has started working, is GIS-based mapping of approx 65000
properties.
Creation of post of
Technical member approved –
· The Union Cabinet approved the creation of the Post of
Technical Member in Securities Appellate Tribunal (SAT), Mumbai.
· The post will have a pay scale of Rs. 2,25,000/-
(fixed) or Level 17 of the Pay Matrix as per the 7th Pay Commission.
· Creation of the post will facilitate the creation of
an additional bench in SAT, thereby allowing speedy disposal of the increased
number of appeals in SAT.
Foundation stone for KV
corridor laid –
· PM Narendra Modi laid the foundation stone of corridor
and beautification at Kashi Vishwanath Temple
at Varanasi on
8 March 2019.
· This Temple
corridor will be a role model for all temples and their safety and security.
· All rules, standards and ethical values mentioned in
our Shastras have been kept in mind while preparing the model of this corridor.
Ausaf Sayeed: new
ambassador to Saudi Arabia
–
· Dr. Ausaf Sayeed was been appointed as the next
ambassador of India to Saudi Arabia.
· He is currently the High Commissioner of India to the Republic of Seychelles.
· He will succeed Ahmed Javed, who had been serving as
envoy to Saudi Arabia
since December 2015.
Gondi to be taught in
tribal districts –
· Ancient tribal language Gondi will be taught in tribal
districts of Madhya Pradesh.
· MP CM Kamal Nath has decided to include Gondi in the
primary education curriculum of the state’s tribal-dominated districts.
· The rapid decline in the number of people who speak
the languages is a matter of concern and needs to be saved from becoming a
past.
Padma Lakshmi: UNDP
Goodwill Ambassador –
· Indian-American television personality and food expert
Padma Lakshmi was appointed by the United Nations Development Program (UNDP) as
its Goodwill Ambassador.
· She was appointed on 7 March 2019.
· She will mobilize support for the Sustainable
Development Goals with a focus on fighting inequality, discrimination and
empowering the disenfranchised.
Mizoram Governor
resigned –
· Governor of Mizoram Kummanam Rajashekhran has resigned
from his post.
· Mr. Kovind appointed Prof. Jagdish Mukhi as the
Governor of Mizoram.
· Jagdish Mukhi, Assam Governor, will hold the post until regular
arrangement of the office of the Governor of Mizoram is made.
Female labour force
participation fell –
· According to the Deloitte report ‘Empowering Women
& Girls in India’ the
female labour force participation in India has fallen to 26% in 2018
from 36.7% in 2005.
· It is because of lack of access to quality education
and underlying social, economic barriers limiting the opportunities for women.
· 195 million women are employed in the unorganized
sector or are in unpaid work.
